Performance coaching is helping someone to achieve something that they don’t have already.  That one sentence beautifully sums up what I do, in my coaching and why I’m so passionate about it.

When many people hear the term ‘Performance Coach’, they think mostly of athletes – Olympians fine-tuning their form, pushing limits and aiming for gold.  And that’s one perspective.  In the sports world, performance coaches are often mentors with deep technical expertise, on hand to enhance skills, adjust technique and ultimately help athletes to win.

However, performance isn’t just for athletes.  Each of us has something we want, that we don’t yet have.  This could be a career shift, a personal project, or a deeper sense of fulfilment.  That’s where performance coaching in my world comes in.

Before I became a full-time coach, I was a Finance Director, performance coaching my own team without fully recognising it for what it was.  I had begun formal training, studying for a Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching, which I achieved with distinction.  That moment was a turning point for me – the beginning of my Wild Empowerment journey.

Now I use a simple but powerful three-step approach to help people reach their goals:

  1. Take Account – Where are you now?

Before you can move forward, you need a clear picture of your present situation.  This can be done through coaching tools like the Wheel of Life or SWOT analysis; or a meaningful conversation over a virtual cup of tea.  It’s about exploring what’s working for you, what’s not, what resources are available to you and what you’ve tried already.  This is about honesty, clarity and understanding the real gap between your current reality and your future desires.

  1. Take Aim – Where do you want to go?

Next you need to clarify your goals.  Crystal clarity is essential, because you can’t hit a blurry target.  You need to refine your vision until it’s in sharp focus, exploring your motivation and the implications of your desired outcome.  Sometimes when I work through this process with my clients, they realise that they don’t want what they thought they wanted.  Others rediscover a long-held dream they’re finally ready to pursue.  Taking aim is about choosing a goal that is both meaningful and achievable.

  1. Take Action – Do something!

This is where dreams become reality.  It’s not enough to know what you want – you have to do something about it.  With my clients, we work together to explore what needs to change, what new habits they need to adopt and how to overcome the obstacles in their way.  I help them stay accountable, maintain momentum and keep their eyes on the prize.  If something gets in the way?  We explore it.  We adapt.  We go again.

Working with a coach means you’re not walking this path alone.  I’m there in the passenger seat for my clients, asking insightful questions, offering a safe, confidential space and keeping the focus.  Whether you’re chasing a personal dream, shifting your career, or growing your business, having someone by your side makes a world of difference.  More often than not, coaching helps people reach their goals faster, because it strips away the distractions and excuses that keep us stuck.

I truly believe everyone has a gap between where they are and where they want to be.  Even I have gaps, which is why I have my own coaches.  If you know there’s something you want, that you haven’t yet achieved, let’s talk.

Each month I offer a few virtual ‘cup of tea’ chats – no pressure, no obligation, just a space to explore your gap and what you could do about it.  If there’s a slot available on my calendar, it’s yours!
